What Is Pilates?

Pilates (pronounced: puh-lah-teez) is a complete co-ordination of body, mind and spirit. The Pilates system is designed to improve spinal health and core strength while maintaining balanced development of the body; through purposeful acquisition of complete control of one's body and then through proper repetition of its exercises that a person gradually and progressively acquire that natural rhythm and co-ordination associated with all of the person's subconscious activities. The system develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.

In conjunction, Yoga and Pilates are physical practices that incorporate movement with breath as well as increase one's well-being and awareness to their bodies through mindfulness and focus. Pilates provides the development of core stability and an attention to alignment, helping the Yoga, while Yoga offers a deeper attention to active stretching. Guests may join the breathing technique of Pilates and meditative aspect of Yoga into their daily routine, to help dissipate the stress of their everyday life.
